5Good to know

In short

IFICI (Incentivo Fiscal à Investigação Científica e Inovação) offers a reduced tax rate on qualifying Portuguese income for a limited number of years. It targets qualified professionals, researchers and people working in innovation and start-ups.

Eligibility at a glance

  • You become tax resident in Portugal and were not resident in recent years
  • Your job or activity is on the list of qualifying activities
  • You apply within the yearly deadline after becoming resident

Why timing matters

Deadlines are strict and missing one usually means losing the benefit for that year. Talk to us as soon as you know your move date, ideally together with your NIF and Digital Nomad Visa plans.

Eligibility and tax advice are given with certified tax professionals. See also the older NHR regime.
