5Good to know

When you need it

Before your first day of work as an employee, before registering as autónomo, and to access public healthcare.

How it's issued

The number is assigned by the social security treasury after an application with your NIE and identity documents. It is yours for life, even if you leave Spain.

Your social security history can be downloaded as a work history report. If you apply for the Beckham Law, the deadline counts from your social security registration.
